RIO CAMPBELL
BORN '01 //
About Cambo...

Rio Campbell, alias CAMBO (b.2001) lives and works in Hull, England, as an independent artist, painting in a studio above her workplace. Born and bred from Hull's council estates, cambo's work balances spontaneity and ' in the moment' creation with more intricate and delicate demonstrations of skill. Using what you can get your hands on is something cambo is well versed with, as canvas wasn't something that accessible growing up. This freedom transpires in the work through raw edge canvas, unframed work, and accidents like paint splats or smudges left in the work, a reminder of transparency and humanity.
'Creating to me has always been as natural as breathing or walking, I just do it. I remember my Dad telling me he would use a friends printer to print photos of the tweenies out for me to draw on. From the age of 2 he said I didn't go out the lines, and from then my creativity was welcomed . I wouldn't be anywhere without a pencil or paper, and this holds true to this day. Only my paper isn't from the post office, and my pens aren't from pound shop.'
